Brick clips
Loctite, an adhesive maker, describes brick clips as the method for brick walls. They attach over the top of a brick, and it recommends clips with springs and adjustable teeth for a tighter fit. It says not to use them on sealed, crumbling or chipped brick.
Adhesive
Loctite also presents its own construction adhesive as a permanent option that works on brick indoors and outdoors. It is a maker's product page, so treat that as a sales claim. Adhesive is hard to undo, so only use it if you want the hold to stay. Test a hidden spot first (our advice).
What not to do
- No nails or staples in the cord. South Carolina's fire safety program says they can damage the cord. See lights without nails.
- Do not force a clip on loose brick. If a brick wobbles or flakes, skip that spot.
Steps
- Walk the wall and mark where the lights will run. Measure and add 10% (calculator).
- Check the brick where each clip goes for sealer, chips and crumbling.
- Clip over the top of each brick along your line, then set the lights into the clips.
- Plug into a GFCI outlet and check the line from the ground.
If the wall is stucco, see stucco. For the whole house, see lights on a house.
Need clips or a hanging pole?
Clips made for the job are gentler on your gutters and cords than nails or staples. Match the clip to your gutter, shingle or trim.
